Description
This area of Buzau county was known from ancient time to be rich in amber deposits.
Early in the 20th century amber was mined in an organized fashion, until WWII.
In 1973 the idea of a museum was born and the "The Colti Museum Collection" was built and inaugurated in 1980. Unique in Romania and one of the very few such collections in the world, it displays my pieces of amber with a widest variety of colours in the world, found only in Buzau county. You can see both raw amber as found in nature and also pieces partially cut or ready made jewels.
The museum also displays tools used to cut and polish amber, and various ethnographical objects from the area.
Entrance fee : 6RON (adults)
Larger groups may benefit from a presentation from the museum curator.
You may need a small hand or the help of a stick to extract the cache.
